The exhibition ‘The `80s Generation – Contemporary Greek Painting from the Sotiris Felios Collection’ at the Coumantaros Art Gallery in Sparta (Annex of the National Gallery) hosts 63 paintings by 17 artists. The exhibition suggests a narrative, a dialogue among the artists open to the visitor. A series of artist presentations is organised to enrich this dialogue. A closer look at the artist’s body of work will facilitate and deepen the conversation between the visitor and the paintings. The first in the series is Anna Maria Tsakali. On Wednesday August 28th at 7pm, the artist and her work will be presented to the audience having her painting titled ‘August’, which is exhibited here, as a starting point.

Born in Piraeus in 1959, she was an École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts student under Leonardo Cremonini (1983-1987). As of 1989 she has had over ten solo shows both in Greece and abroad; meanwhile she has also taken part in many group exhibitions. Her works are on display in the Greek National Gallery, the Frissiras Museum, the Kouvoutsakis Art Institute, the Tellogleion Art Foundation, the National Bank of Greece, the Gallery of the city of Florina, the French Ministry of Finance and in private collections both in Greece and abroad. She has illustrated the following books: I moni klironomia by Giorgos Ioannou (The only legacy, 1995) and Athina, diadromes kai staseis (Athens, itineraries and stops, Collective work, 1999). She lives and works in Athens and Paris.

The Lambinet Museum of Versailles on the occasion of the Year Le Nôtre* organises the exhibition “Infini Végétal” presenting 60 paintings and drawings by Anna Maria Tsakali from the past 25 years (September 19th – December 3rd). The exhibition catalogue published by Magellan Publishing (France) includes essays by the Mayor of Versailles François de Mazières, the Director of the Museum and Exhibition Curator Françoise Roussel-Leriche, and the Director of the National Gallery of Greece Marina Lambraki-Plaka.

* To mark the 400th anniversary of André Le Nôtre’s birth, the Palace of Versailles will be paying tribute to him throughout the year 2013. Andrè Le Nôtre (1613-1700) was a French landscape architect and the principal gardener of King Louis XIV of France. Most notably, he was responsible for the design and construction of the park of the Palace of Versailles.
